If you were born between the Start and Finish dates listed below, you are an Ox person. The spirit of the Ox lives in your heart. Depending on your year of birth, you will also have one of the five elements associated with your animal sign. Elements occur for two lunar years. The first year is Yang (+), the second is Yin (–).

There are many differences between the different element types of Ox. Below is a broad description of the Ox personality.

Ox is the second sign of the Chinese horoscope. The Ox is Yin and is fixed to the Water element. The characteristics of the Ox correspond to the occidental sign of Capricorn. Yin is negative, feminine, and associated with the Night. Subjective Yin signs trust their feelings about themselves and others. You tend to be more concerned with the spiritual than the physical. As all opposites attract in nature, Yin attracts Yang. The Water element association bestows a better than average ability to communicate and an awareness of the feelings of others.

The Ox is characterized as a hard, methodical worker and an achiever. Personal stability and security are achieved through adherence to routine, convention and tradition. Oxen are not shy, but seldom considered as being vibrant and exciting. A mischievous streak is present in some.

In matters of the heart, the Ox hates the humiliation associated with rejection. Some emotional wounds are never forgotten. You may have difficulty in expressing intimate emotion, but this does not mean that you don't love deeply, and with ardour. In most matters, you will follow your head, not your heart. In unbearable situations, the patient Ox has been known to explode and attack everything in sight.

The Ox is a good provider for the family and will always put its interests before their own. You are reliable and dependable in family situations. Ox parents can be unyielding with children.

Most employers value their Ox staff highly, as they exhibit honesty, a liking for discipline, and the ability to lead by example. The Ox employer sets high standards and does not suffer laziness or incompetence well. When an Ox builds something, it tends to last. The natural caution present in Ox people gives them a distaste for gambling.

The Ox will generally achieve the life goals they set themselves without the help of others. Like the ancient fable of the Hare and the Tortoise, you may not get there the fastest, but you will invariably get where you want to be in the end.

The time of birth is significant in outward mannerisms. The Ox born in the evening will be more placid than one born during the day. You will get along best with those born in the years of the Rooster, the Snake, and the Rat. Relationships with Dogs and Sheep can be difficult.
