Pisces is the twelfth sign of the Western zodiac. In ancient Babylon, the constellation of Pisces was known as the Tails or Leash, upon which were tied the two fish-goddesses, Anunitum and Simmah. In Greek mythology, Cupid and Venus became fishes when they dived into a river to escape the giant Typhon. The goddess Minerva placed the likeness of the fishes in the heavens.
Pisces is a Mutable, Water, Feminine sign ruled by Jupiter. Those born with the Sun in Pisces are characterized as being sensitive and impressionable. Pisces is the sign of the dreamer. Mutable signs are associated with the ability to adapt to situations and the behavior of others, tending to be broad thinking and compromising. Water signs imply an emotional, intuitive nature with a need for security. They tend to be faithful and loyal, with many being highly-strung. An artistic streak and love of music should be present. They are also slow to change. The Feminine association is one of receptiveness, introspection and non-assertion. Appearing weak or fearful, although appearances can be deceiving.
Interpretation of the natal chart can be thought of in terms of three major facets of the individual. How you appear to others, your innermost desires and aspirations, and what you are really like. The characteristics associated with your Sun sign, Pisces, are not absolutes and should be seen only as likely dispositions.
The twelfth sign figures prominently in the charts of artists and the deeply religious. Pisces is regarded as the most impressionable and vulnerable sign. At your best, you are humble and kind, intuitive and receptive to the ideas of others. Adaptable. At your worst, indecisive and vague. You may constantly call on others to attend to personal crises and be generally unable to cope with everyday practical life matters.
The Piscean nature abhors rigid discipline and conformity. These conditions will not cause Pisceans to fight their way out of the situation, but rather to make you sick. An element of chaos and disorder is present in the lives of many Pisceans, but their natural disposition to be kindly and charming insures many friends that can be relied upon. As you are more devoted to people and spiritual matters than the material considerations of life, the desire for fortune and glory is rarely present.
In emotional relationships, the Piscean need for someone to idolize can cause you to be a suffocating partner - constantly drawing upon the other for inspiration and solace. Pisceans are renowned for being romantic and wonderful lovers.
The Piscean parent can tend to spoil children and to be unwilling, or incapable, of providing discipline when needed. Children find it easy to take advantage of the Piscean parent. The Piscean child may exhibit over-sensitivity and a dislike of school discipline. Their artistic abilities should be encouraged. They are usually very affectionate to the rest of the family.
