Scorpio is the eighth sign of the Western zodiac. In ancient Greek mythology, when the Gods were warring with each other, Juno commanded the Great Scorpion to attack Orion. The Scorpion also terrified the horses of Apollo's Sun chariot and was struck by a thunderbolt from Zeus for its trouble.
Scorpio is a Fixed, Water, Feminine sign ruled by Mars. Those born with the Sun in Scorpio are characterized as being jealous, passionate and intense. Fixed signs are associated with resistance to change. They are stable, strong and enduring, with the ability to see things through to the end. Water signs imply an emotional, intuitive nature with a need for security. They tend to be faithful and loyal, with many being highly-strung. An artistic streak and love of music should be present. They are also slow to change. The Feminine association is one of receptiveness, introspection and non-assertion. Appearing weak or fearful, although appearances can be deceiving.
Interpretation of the natal chart can be thought of in terms of three major facets of the individual. How you appear to others, your innermost desires and aspirations, and what you are really like. The characteristics associated with your Sun sign, Scorpio, are not absolutes and should be seen only as likely dispositions.
The character of Scorpio has long been identified with a passionate nature, particularly in relation to sexual matters. It is the case that the Scorpion is also passionate in other areas of life, in work and in play. The Scorpion is also intense and energetic and not generally the best person to compete with. Scorpions have been known to go to any lengths to achieve their aims, particularly if jealousy is a motivation. At best, you are persistent and determined without being overbearing. You can be imaginative and a have a powerful sense of purpose. At your worst, suspicious, jealous, stubborn and secretive. A dull life is not for the average Scorpion. Given to excess and over-indulgence in most things, it will not be unusual to see Scorpio's making dramatic changes in their lives, many times. Your biggest challenge in life is to effectively channel emotional power to worthwhile purposes and to remember to consider the feelings of others.
Jealousy is the downfall of many Scorpios. This emotion should be moderated for successful long-term relationships. You also tend to dwell on your emotions rather than the matters at hand. The strong sense of perception present in most Scorpios should be relied upon.
Scorpio people will mostly be satisfied in any occupation that taxes the body and/or the mind. Responding well to discipline, they are good students and researchers.
The Scorpion parent should beware of a tendency to be too strict and demanding. The Scorpion child will require an outlet for the considerable emotional energy present - aggression should be expected. A bored Scorpio is not the happiest person to be with.
