Taurus is the second sign of the Western zodiac. In Greek mythology, Zeus placed the likeness of a white bull, that he had disguised himself as, in the heavens. Taurus is a Fixed, Feminine, Earth sign ruled by Venus. Those born with the Sun in Taurus are characterized as being possessive and strong-willed in nature.

Fixed signs are associated with resistance to change. They are stable, strong and enduring with the ability to see things through to the end. Earth signs imply practicality, reliability and personal stability. They are thorough and careful and not given to extravagant behavior. They can be fussy and selfish at times. The Feminine association is one of receptiveness, introspection and non-assertion. Appearing weak or fearful, although appearances can be deceiving.

Interpretation of the natal chart can be thought of in terms of three major facets of the individual. How you appear to others, your innermost desires and aspirations, and what you are really like. The characteristics associated with your Sun sign, Taurus, are not absolutes, and should be seen only as likely dispositions.

Personal security is generally of great importance to you. At your best, you are determined, strong-willed, warm-hearted and affectionate. At your worst, possessive, self-indulgent and inflexible. Greediness is not unusual. Stability - this word will appear many times in the description of a Taurean. To others, you will typically appear solid, steady and reliable. It is often the case that your opinions and beliefs are deep-rooted. You don't like to be contradicted. Taureans generally demand security in all aspects of their lives. Mostly slow to anger, a furious temper can emerge suddenly. Possessiveness towards others, especially loved ones and partners, is not unusual. Beware of jealous feelings undermining a relationship. Although originality is not a common trait among Taureans, artistic ability is often present and should be encouraged.

Taureans are satisfied by the conventional and are mostly charming and affectionate. The Taurean parent may tend to be conservative and a disciplinarian, perhaps forcing children in directions they do not want to go. The Taurean child should be encouraged, from the earliest age, to be adaptable at every opportunity. Changes should be introduced for the sake of change. This should increase the ability to deal with changes and other surprises in later life.

In career terms, Taurus has a demonstrated ability to make money and hold on to it. Professions chosen by Taureans will have well identified and consistent frameworks. A tendency to become overweight and lazy may be present - physical exercise should be made part of life's routine.
