Think of a Birth Chart as a 24 hour clock. Learning to read a birth chart is like learning to tell time.
The wheel of your chart is divided into three sections:
The Center Section
At the center of the wheel is a circle that represents the Earth. It contains your Aspects. The Aspects show the angular relationship between the Sun, Moon, Planets, Ascendant and Midheaven. Aspects reveal personality.
The Middle Section
The middle section containing the Planets is the Solar System. It is divided into twelve segments which are called Houses. The Sun, Moon, and Planets occupy a position within these Houses that correspond to their position at the time of your birth.
The Outer Section
The outer circle is the Universe and is divided into the twelve Zodiac Signs. The Sun, Moon, and Planets also occupy a position relative to these signs. The Zodiac Sign in which the Sun is located, is your Sun Sign (sometimes called your Star Sign).
The wheel is in constant motion and rotates in a counter-clockwise direction every 24 hours. At the moment of your birth, the wheel is stopped and your astrological "picture" is defined.
Day and Night
The red line that runs across the middle divides the chart into night and day. The area above the red line is day. Below the red line is night. If the Sun is at the top of the wheel, you were born around midday. If it is at the bottom, you were born around midnight. The left of the wheel is morning, the right is afternoon and evening.
The Midheaven
The arrowhead at the top of the wheel is your Midheaven. The Zodiac Sign that the Midheaven occupies equates to your ego and how you may approach ambitions and aspirations.
